Grading
Your grade will be based on 500 total points composed of 6 elements:
- (1) Quiz on course mechanics = 8 points
- (2) Essays: 2 essays. The first essay will be worth 15 points, and the second essay will be
worth 120 points. 15 + 120 = 135 points
- (3) Discussion Section participation:
- 8 Discussion Sections x 15 points = 120 points
- (4) MidTerm Exam: 100 points
- (5) Final Exam: 135 points
- (6) Course Evaluation: 2 points
- Total: 500 points
Letter grades will not be given to any individual assignments, exams, or portions of the course.
Your grade will be based only on the total number of points you have accumulated at the end of the
course. What this means is that you cannot argue that if you receive what you feel are "A's" on
some portions of the course and "F's" in others, your grede should be an average of what you feel
those letter grades are. Because your grade is based only on the total number of points you
receive, you need to participate and do well in all parts of the course in order to receive a good
grade. You will lose a significant number of points if you neglect to do your Discussion Postings
on time, or to turn in your essays on time.
If you have a situation that requires special exam conditions, let me know and we will make the
needed arrangements.
