Human Genetic Disorders

Genetic abnormality is a term applied to a genetic condition that is a deviation from the usual, or average, and is not life-threatening. An example is polydactyly which is an unusual number of toes or fingers.

Genetic disorder is more appropriately used to describe conditions that cause medical problems.

A syndrome is a recognized set of symptoms that characterize a given disorder. A disease is illness caused by infectious, dietary, or environmental factors.
