COST OF DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM:
- ONE TIME COST FOR PUMPS AND FILTERS ($1,000 PER ACRE)
- YEARLY COST FOR DRIP TUBING ($150 PER ACRE)
- SAVINGS IN COSTS FOR CHEMICALS CAN PAY FOR THE SYSTEM IN A FEW YEARS
The initial installation of a drip irrigation system is relatively expensive. Research conducted on grapes in the San Joaquin and Coachella Valleys of California have shown that significantly smaller quantities of nematicides are needed if applied via drip irrigation than via other methods. Comparative cost analyses indicate that the savings in the cost of nematicides over a period of several years is enough to essentially pay for the cost of the drip irrigation system.
