Stems

A vascular bundle is a strandlike arrangement of primary xylem and phloem. Inside each bundle, the phloem is positioned near the side of the sheath facing the stem surface. The xylem is positioned near the side facing the stem center.

In most monocots, the vascular bundles arc scattered throughout thc ground tissue.

The stems of most dicots have vascular bundles arranged as a ring that divides the ground tissue into the outer cortex and inner pith.

This animation (Audio - Important) describes the structure of stems.
