Disruptive Selection
Disruptive selection favors forms at both ends of the
range of variation and selects against the intermediate forms. An example is certain
finches in Africa that have either large or small bills,
 but no sizes in between.
This animation (Audio - Important) describes
 disruptive selection.
The
Natural Selection tutorial is a good review of Stabilizing Selection, Directional Selection,
and Disruptive Selection.
