The Golgi Apparatus

The Golgi apparatus (also referred to as Golgi bodies) modifies, sorts, and ships proteins. It also plays a role in the synthesis of lipids for secretion or for internal use. In the Golgi apparatus, proteins and lipids undergo final processing, sorting, and packaging. The membranes of the Golgi apparatus are arranged in stacks of flattened sacs whose edges break away as vesicles.

This tutorial (Audio - Important) describes the function of endoplasmic reticulum and golgi apparatus.

REVIEW: These are the primary structures for the packaging of cellular secretions for export from the cell.
