Grading

Your grade will be based on 1,000 total points composed of 6 elements: Letter grades will not be given to any individual assignments, exams, or portions of the course. Your grade will be based only on the total number of points you have accumulated at the end of the course. What this means is that you cannot argue that if you receive what you feel are "A's" on some portions of the course and "F's" in others, your grede should be an average of what you feel those letter grades are. Because your grade is based only on the total number of points you receive, you need to participate and do well in all parts of the course in order to receive a good grade.

Unfortunately, the smartsite gradebook does not "roundup" the way many of us have been taught to expect. Each year, some students are disappointed to find themselves 0.5 points away from the next highest grade. I am sorry if this happens to you. I have complained about this to the smartsite developers but they do not seemed to be inclined to do anything about it.

If you have a situation that requires special exam conditions, let me know and we will make the needed arrangements.
