ROOT PRUNING:

For some bulb crops (e.g. lesion nematode in Easter lilies), analysis of the proportion of nematodes present in roots as opposed to the bulb itself has shown approximately 95% to be in the roots. Trials indicate that removing infested roots prior to planting can result in somewhat lower nematode populations at harvest and improved bulb growth, but the practice has not proven effective enough to replace chemical treatments.
