In the late 1980's, the USDA brought together a group of nematologists to develop crop loss estimates for several important U.S. crops.

In this example, the nationwide crop loss estimates for the four crops studied have been applied to California yearly farm gate values provided by Agricultural Commissioners.

Although the figures are impressive, they tend to gloss over the real loss situation typically experienced by growers.

In reality, not all growers have nematode infested fields. Those that do, therefore, tend to experience losses much larger than those indicated by these estimates.
