USING NEMATODE RESISTANT TOMATOES TO AVOID FUMIGATION IN A SUBSEQUENT BEAN CROP:

In this example of how root-knot nematode resistant tomatoes can be used to reduce the need for chemical control in a subsequent crop, susceptible tomatoes were grown with fumigation in 1985.

In 1986, resistant tomatoes were grown without fumigation.

In 1987, the yield of beans grown in the same field was the same whether or not the field was fumigated.
