EXAMPLE - SPECIAL REVIEW OF TELONE II:

The US EPA Special Review of Telone II provides an interesting example of the far reaching effects that a single research project can have. As a result of a study funded through the NTP (National Toxicology Program) for which taxpayers paid millions of dollars and which government officials interpreted as providing evidence of carcinogenicity, Telone II was placed into Special Review. A subsequent analysis of this same report by the California Proposition 65 review committee resulted in the product being placed on the Prop 65 list which in turn led to its use being suspended for several years because of unacceptable levels being present in the air.
