SOIL MOISTURE:
- Too low - fumigant becomes adsorbed to soil particles.
- Too high - water in soil pore spaces hinders movement.
As indicated previously in the charts for methyl bromide and Telone II, there are optimum ranges of soil moisture for dispersal of fumigants. Finer textured soils tend to have smaller pore spaces and to hold more water than coarser textured soils. If soil pores are filled with water, fumigants cannot move through them in the gaseous phase.
