BENEFICIAL EFFECTS OF GROWING COVER CROPS:

As listed above, there can be beneficial effects of growing cover crops over and above the effects they may have on nematode populations. These are beyond the scope of this presentation, however, keeping in mind that nematodes are typically plant stressors, any management practices which alleviate stress from other factors may provide apparent benefits in cropping systems stressed by nematodes. Also, one should always try to be aware that changing a cropping situation can have potentially negative as well as positive effects. The potential for cover crops to have negative effects when they are in competition with other crops should not be overlooked.
