In research conducted for management of Columbia root-knot nematode in the Tulelake/Klamath Basin of California (indicated by green circle on map), a number of short season varieties of crops were screened such sunflowers, safflower, and sugarbeets.
As illustrated in this graph, sugarbeets were found to be no worse a rotation crop than barley from the standpoint of nematode reproduction, and to be of higher value for growers.
