DISTRIBUTION IN ORCHARDS AND VINEYARDS

In the vertical plane, most nematode species are concentrated at the level of greatest feeder root production. In sampling established orchards of stone fruits, nuts, and citrus, the common ectoparasitic and endoparasitic nematode pathogens of these crops have been found in the horizontal plane at the greatest populations levels under the edge of the leaf canopy.

The common root parasites of grapes are concentrated within the vine row; detailed studies of Meloidogyne and Xiphinema populations on grapes have indicated that samples will give the most accurate readings, if taken within 18 inches (45 cm) of the vine trunk.
